Mayor says Mayberry festival was shining example for city
It
is with heartfelt gratitude that I find myself not only a
citizen, but also the Mayor of this wonderful city. The
hospitality and generosity displayed during the weekend of
the "Mayberry in the Midwest" event was a shining example of
what this community embodies.
People from all parts of the country were
welcomed into our town and left with a sincere admiration
for the good citizens of this community. That is evident
from the letters published in the paper these last few days.
These letters from visitors, the stars and local citizens
are testimonies to the hard work everyone performed to
organize and stage this exceptional event. Curt Bell was
tireless in his efforts to bring this event here, the staff
of the Henry County Convention and Visitors Bureau was
nothing short of professional in their promotion, The Arts
Center of Henry County was in full display and no one was
disappointed. There were countless volunteers, who through
their unselfish acts, made this event possible and in the
true spirit of volunteerism, they expected nothing but the
enjoyment of their fellow citizens. This community is truly
blessed with wonderful caring people.
It is my hope that "Mayberry in the
Midwest" will become an annual event allowing our community
to be showcased in a way that will attract future events of
similar caliber. These are the little things that make our
small town stand out among the crowd and reinforces what we
all know. This is a great place to live, work and raise a
family. We are now poised to let the rest of the world know
what a unique and wonderful community we have.
